Super essay. It was amazing to study about what went on in the background. And very balanced at the end. I wanted to highlight a three part article I wrote on LinkedIn when certain controversies/ concerns broke out around Aadhar. Hope it is additive, even though it is self publicity:
While the storytelling is amazing, I was expecting something else from reading the title. I did not that the UIDAI team decided to run-along with what they can (and make it a process head-ache vs a tech head-ache), and improve in the long-run. The scale does make it fascinating nonetheless.
Hi Anirudh, thanks for reading and commenting! I am not sure I fully understand your point, but I you're right in that the operational challenges were also massive. That probably merits a blog post or a book of its own!
Hey guys, here is your regular fan writing out of his newly joined MBA dorm room. Given that context, I guess you guys have some proof-of-concept on "will today's attention deficient time crunched people long read?". :P
I think the internet country was, if not the most, but definitely one of your most successful essays. Think this one reminded me of that, but the protagonist led story telling was damn engaging. Also, the credit was due so it does the right kind of justice. Other than that (and I am no techie) there could still be a little bit more tech bend. It would really bring out the complexities and magnitude the achievement.
What can I giveback here.. ? I am really finding it hard, may be when it comes to scalability solutions, India is definitely a fertile ground of problems. There are podcasts on how Hotstar does India vs Pakistan, the whole low value payments scheme and those 3 guys rotating 50rs on GPay for scratch cards and then the financial inclusion bit which interests me and you both.
Looking forward to coming back for learning and contributing!
Thank you so much Tarang! It means a lot that you take the time to read our work, and even more that you write in to share your appreciation! I hear you about adding more technical content - that is something I aim to do moving forward.

Very well written essay. As Jon Stewart famous for his "Daily Show" said, "creativity comes from limits, not freedom", the leaders, the chosen ones, who came together for this "once in a life time" program faced every challenge head on and overcame "against all odds". They built the most impeccable solutions - one that is faster, cheaper and scalable that also addresses the privacy and security concerns. The way you have stitched the story with the statistics, bringing the Gen AI aspects with very contextual generated images makes it a fun and engaging read. Thank you for putting this together 🙏🏼
Thank you for another exceptional story telling! I get a feeling that the current DPI ecosystem is augmented by best of tech across the world with a controlling Indian layer than suffering performance by being extremely nationalistic! (example - UPI delivered via GPay and the biometric dedupe vendors). Proud that we have some best Architects in the world who can put together these systems for maximum benefit of the citizens.
It was beautifully written and so well researched.
I didn't know the Aadhar story - might have to read Rebooting India. Subscribing to this newsletter is easily one of the best decisions that I have made

Hi Aryaman, fascinating piece, would love to know more about the deep-tech climate company and the kind of roles they are looking at!
